For generations, Richmond Highway has connected people, commerce, and opportunity across Fairfax County. From George Washington's travels to today's thriving businesses, it has shaped how the region lives, works, and grows. It remains one of Fairfax County's most important, yet often overlooked, corridors.
Today, as redevelopment projects like the Embark Richmond Highway Plan and the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system take shape, Richmond Highway is preparing to write its next chapter. The Faces of ONE campaign honors the thriving local businesses — restaurants, shops, parks, and entrepreneurs who already call the corridor home. That's who we're here to celebrate.
ONE Vision for the Future
Richmond Highway is undergoing a transformation unlike anything it has seen before. Embark Richmond Highway is a multi-faceted project promoting revitalization along a 7.5-mile segment of the Richmond Highway corridor by creating a series of mixed-use activity centers supported by a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system; roadway, pedestrian and bicycle improvements; enhanced open space and park systems; and eventually a three-mile extension of the Metrorail Yellow Line from Huntington to Hybla Valley.
These changes bring exciting opportunities: multi-modal communities, modern transit options, and new spaces for businesses and residents to thrive. However, they also come with challenges for existing businesses navigating construction and redevelopment.
That’s where the Faces of ONE campaign steps in. Backed by a $150,000 investment, the initiative supports Richmond Highway’s small businesses by promoting their stories, connecting them with resources, and ensuring they remain visible and vibrant throughout this period of change.
ONE Initiative, Many Faces
At the heart of the Faces of ONE campaign are the stories of the people who make Richmond Highway a special place. From long-standing business owners to new residents, these are the faces that define the corridor’s identity.
Take, for example, a market vendor greeting regular customers every Wednesday at the Mount Vernon/McCutcheon Farmer's Market with fresh-picked produce, or the martial arts instructor helping local kids build confidence one class at a time. These are the local people and businesses that give Richmond Highway its character, and these are the stories Faces of ONE is here to tell.
This initiative gives a platform to the voices of Richmond Highway, ensuring that their contributions are recognized and celebrated. Faces of ONE is dedicated to showcasing what makes this region one of Fairfax Counties most energetic corridors.
